Amid the surge in cases, the Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to impose a strict lockdown starting from 10th July, 10 pm to 13th July, 5 am. According to media reports, essential and train services will continue to work. Meanwhile, all offices, markets and commercial establishments will remain closed. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated Uttar Pradesh's response to COVID-19 situation. He said, despite carrying a voluminous population, the state has managed to contain the virus to an extent. In the last 24 hours while recording over 1,200 new cases UP's overall tally stands at 32,632.

Coronavirus cases continue to rise in India, with recording over 24,000 fresh positive cases in the last 24 hours, the country has registered the new single-day highest spike since the outbreak of the virus. The overall COVID-19 cases in India has reached a new high, with touching 7,67,296 cases. In the last 24 hours, 487 patients have succumbed to death due to the virus, taking India's overall death tally to 21,129.

According to ICMR, with the surge in cases, India has also increased its testing capacity, on average, the nation tests over 2.6 Lakh samples per day. With this, the agency said, India has ramped up it's testing across the country in order to contain the virus, and isolate maximum infected patience.

The healthy ministry informed, out of the total deaths in the country, 53 per cent of patients above the age of 60 accounts to the overall tally. Although, the recovered patients remain to stay 1.75 times higher than the active cases in India.

On Thursday, the Union Home Ministry said, due to extensive testing and providing more COVID-19 Care Centres, the nation capital, Delhi has managed to improve its condition. The city has a recovery rate of 72 per cent and a doubling rate of close to 30 days. Delhi has been showing improved conditions in recent days.
