Former Team India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar celebrates his 71st birthday on Friday (July 10) as wishes for poured in for one of cricket's evergreen personalities.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), in their bid to present Gavaskar on his birthday with special honour, restored the two seats at the Wankhede Stadium which were permanently assigned to honour him during his retirement.
In a press note, the MCA stated: "It was brought to our notice, that the two fixed seats allotted to Smt. and Shri Sunil Gavaskar were inadvertently, not restored."
"However, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) headed by the President, Dr. Vijay D. Patil, has decided not only to reinstate the two fixed seats in their honour but also re-position the two fixed seats in the name of Smt. and Shri Sunil Gavaskar, in the President’s Box at the Wankhede Stadium, MCA."
Reacting to this, Gavaskar said: "I am most thankful to the MCA for their sweet gift on my birthday"
The Mumbai-born cricketer was an absolute revolution of India during his playing days, who also went on to become the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
In his neverending series of prestigious accolades, Gavaskar became the first India cricketer to take 100 catches in the longest format of the game and held the record for scoring most number of centuries in Tests until 2005.
