Fire engulfs Brisbane home, neighbour rescued from unit

A house fire in inner-northern Brisbane that threatened a block of units next door forced firefighters to rescue a neighbour from a unit with a ladder.

Emergency services received multiple triple zero calls to the house fire on Winchester Street at Hamilton just before 5.30pm on Friday.

"Firefighters escorted one person from unit to safety via a ladder and teams were deployed to the units to check on occupants," she said.

"Other teams of firefighters with breathing apparatus were fighting the fire and protecting the building next door."

She said the fire was under control just before 6pm.

"They are still conducting primary search and fighting the fire," she said.

Multiple QAS crews remain on standby.
