The first phase of disengagement at Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh is "nearly" complete ahead of the diplomatic and military talks between India and China in the next few days.
Indian government sources confirmed to Zee Media that disengagement has been completed from finger 4 to finger 5 areas of Pangong lake and in the 3 areas--Gogra, Galwan & Hot springs at LAC.
The next step in the process will take take place after the Corp Commanders meet scheduled to take place next week. This will be the first meet this month. Last month, the meet happened 3 times-6th, 22nd & 30th June in which both arrived at consensus and strategised upon roadmaps for disengagement.
Meanwhile, the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China border affairs (WMCC) meet will happen on Friday. The last such meet happened on 24th June between Joint Secretary (East Asia) in Ministry of external affairs and Director General of the Department of Boundary & Oceanic Affairs of the Chinese MFA.
The MEA on Thursday in the weekly press conference also dismissed "some inaccurate and uninformed comments" about the disengagement process saying Indian govt's position has been "categorically" stated which include "our position that recent Chinese claims to the Galwan Valley area are exaggerated and untenable" and "LAC must be strictly respected and observed as this is the basis for peace and tranquillity in the border areas" with "neither side.. t(aking) any unilateral action to alter it."
MEA, while calling for "resolution of differences through dialogue" said, India is "strongly committed to ensuring India's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
