As executive director of the research group Transport & Environment, William Todts is steering the organization to promote, at EU and global level, policy that ensures cleaner, safer, smarter transport.
Todts, who joined T&E in 2011, led a campaign to regulate CO2 emissions from trucks for the first time and campaigned for the 95 grams per kilometer fleet emissions target for automakers by 2021.
The coronavirus crisis is now offering a new challenge: How to sustain cleaner air under lockdowns as life returns to normal across Europe.
A recent T&E survey found that respondents do not want pollution to return to pre-COVID-19 levels and support changes in transport to protect clean air.
