GMC to sign an MoU with university of Miami for cutting edge treatment of patients suffering from stroke

PANAJI: In a bid to reduce deaths caused due to stroke in the State, health minister Vishwajit Rane said Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital will be signing an Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Miami to bring in cutting edge treatments like mechanical thrombectomy.


“Through the MoU, we intend to send doctors from Goa Medical College for observership in fields such as strokes and other relevant diseases,” Rane said.

The University of Miami is one of the few Universities that have successfully deployed the technology of thrombolysing patients beyond the golden hour. “Through the observership, we plan to extend the same to the citizens of Goa,” he said.


H said, the key objective remains to treat stroke patients with effective technology beyond the golden hour period. Stroke remains the leading cause of death in India since the last two decades. “In order to save our citizens from fatal strokes, it is very crucial that we bring in advanced medical facilities to treat them beyond the golden hour.”
