Gangster Vikas Dubey's mother Sarla Devi on Thursday said that her son, arrested for the Kanpur ambush, is with the SP, a claim denied by the party. “At this time, he is not in the BJP, he is with the SP,” she told reporters. Meanwhile, an SP spokesman said Vikas is "not a member of the party" and strict action should be taken against him. His call record details should be made public as demanded by party president Akhilesh Yadav to expose his links, added the party spokesperson.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded a CBI probe on Thursday to ascertain the facts about the "grant of protection" to gangster Vikas Dubey. She also accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of "complete failure" in handling the Kanpur ambush case and arresting Dubey, the main accused who fled the state and was arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning. Gangster Vikas Dubey to be brought to UP on transit remand: Police

After the arrest of gangster Vikas Dubey, wanted in connection with the Kanpur ambush in which eight policemen were killed, in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain on Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh police said he would be brought to the state on transit remand. "Dubey will be brought to the state on transit remand. Our campaign against all those involved in the Kanpur case will continue till not even a single member of the Dubey gang is left," ADG, Law and Order Prashant Kumar said. "Stricter punishment will be ensured against Dubey," he added.

Opposition questions role of police in Vikas Dubey case

In an expected development, the opposition has started questioning the role of the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Vikas Dubey case and the related encounters of five criminals. Senior Congress leader Jitin Prasada tweeted after the STF detained Khushi, wife of Amar Dubey, who was shot dead in Hamirpur on Wednesday. Khushi's arrest has not been announced by the STF, but the local people have confirmed that Amar's relatives and his wife were 'taken away' by the police and have not returned yet. Amar had been married to Khushi on June 29 -- just three days before the Bikru village encounter. She was widowed on Wednesday, a week after being married. Jitin Prasada tweeted, "Khushi probably had no choice being married off to Amar and continues to suffer as a widow and facing police harassment. Get Vikas Dubey alive and expose the links and the rot in the system from top to bottom and justice prevails." (sic)

He reportedly bought a ticket from the counter for Rs 250, but it is yet to be confirmed. CCTV footage shows him being hustled out by cops on the road in front of the temple.

It’s believed that Dubey was arrested from inside Mahakaal Temple, a Jyotirling. A day earlier, his right hand man was shot dead by UP police and two more were gunned down on Thursday morning. Dubey knew that there woudn’t be an encounter inside a temple.

“We have arrested Vikas, and he is in our custody,” said Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra. “He is a cruel killer. What he did was reprehensible. Madhya Pradesh police were on alert and we nabbed him. We have informed UP police. It’s a big achievement for MP police,” he added.

Vikas Dubey, India’s most wanted fugitive, was arrested from the famed Mahakaal Temple in Ujjain on Thursday morning, a week after he fled Kanpur after the killing of eight policemen who had gone to arrest him.
