Shortly after pricing details for the 2021 Kia K5 were announced, fuel consumption figures for the car have been made official.
The majority of Kia K5 models come outfitted with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that is most efficient in entry-level LX guise with front-wheel drive where it returns 29 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined.
One step up in the range takes customers to the K5 LXS FWD that is good for 27/37/31 mpg city, highway, combined while the all-wheel drive variant of the LXS returns 26/36/29 mpg city, highway, combined. Also on offer are the K5 GT-Line FWD and AWD models, rated at 27/37/31 and 26/34/29 mpg city, highway, combined. The final K5 variant to have its fuel economy figures confirmed is the EX FWD that returns 27 mph city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined.
The 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine driving these variants is good for 180 hp and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Sitting at the top of the K5 family is the GT model that comes standard with a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder rated at 290 hp and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque. This engine has a more advanced eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and could spell the end of the 2.0-liter Kia Stinger variant. Unfortunately, fuel economy ratings for the 2021 K5 GT have yet to be announced.
Pricing for the K5 starts at a reasonable $24,455 after a $965 destination fee, meaning it is just $100 more expensive than the outgoing Optima.
