Representative imageCOIMBATORE: Two nine-year-old girls died in two separate incidents in Coimbatore on Wednesday.
The Singanallur police said Bhavadharani, a Class IV student, was sitting on a cot at her home in Irugur on Tuesday evening. A pencil she was using fell on the floor. She tried to take the pencil immediately, and her head hit the floor.
She didn’t have any external injuries. Her parents did not take her to hospital. However, the girl started to vomit on Wednesday morning, and the parents rushed her to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
An MRI scan revealed that she had suffered internal injuries in her brain. Doctors suggested a surgery. The surgery was performed, but she died on Wednesday evening.
The body was sent for postmortem. The Singanallur police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.
The girl’s father, Thiyagarajan, is a driver.
On Wednesday evening, Jerlin Meha, a Class IV student, was playing at her residence in Neelikonampalayam. The girl tied a towel on a swing's chain and tried to climb. The towel tightened around her neck and the girl died.
Her mother, Nisha, 35, a staff nurse in CMCH, and her father, Arul Gnana Jhonse, 37, who had earlier worked as a nurse in Gulf countries, were sleeping at their residence when the incident happened. The parents took the girl to CMCH where doctor declared that she had already died. The body was sent for postmortem.
The Singanallur police registered a case under section 174 CrPC.
