Tezpur University entrance exam cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic

GUWAHATI: With rising Covid-19 cases across Assam, the Tezpur University cancelled its entrance examination on Wednesday. The university said it will admit students on the basis of their performance in the last qualifying examination.
The University had earlier decided to conduct the examination between May 29 and 31 but could not do so owing to the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Around 1,700 students are likely to be enrolled in various post graduate and undergraduate courses this year.

“Unfortunately, there is no sign of improvement in the situation in the country in general and Assam in particular. Due to the prevailing situation, it is difficult for the aspiring candidates, invigilators and university representatives to reach the test centres located in different parts of the country and abroad to conduct the examination. It is also difficult to maintain social distancing and sanitization norms with large number of candidates in the examination hall. Considering all these factors, the university has decided not to conduct the entrance examination for all programs through Tezpur University Entrance Examination this year,” a statement issued by the university read.

It added that the merit list for admission will be prepared based on the marks secured by a candidate in their last qualifying examinations. The candidates who have already submitted the online application for admission will be required to submit their mark sheets and grade cards. Grade to percentage of marks conversion formula has to be submitted by the candidate in case of a grading system.

“The provision for online submission of mark sheets, grade cards and other relevant documents will be intimated to the candidates through messages to their registered mobiles or by e-mail shortly. Last date for uploading the document is July 31, 2020,” the statement read.

The university had earlier extended the last date of submission of online applications to June 30. Authorities said that students who had done so will be the only ones eligible for admissions this year.
