'Every time I suggest something she triples it in size and noise level': Mum pens hilarious rant about her mother-in-law after she bought her son a giant car-themed tent 'nobody asked for'
- Mummy blogger Mel Watts, 33, recently celebrated her youngest son's birthday
- Sonny, who turned three, was given a gift by Mel's mother-in-law Trish
- While Mel suggested she get Sonny a book, Trish opted for something 'larger'
- The giant Supercheap Auto tent was not what the family expected to get
An Australian mother has ranted about the birthday present her mother-in-law gifted her son after her suggestion of a book was met with something much larger than expected.
Mel Watts, 33, who lives on the New South Wales Central Coast, celebrated her little boy Sonny's third birthday on June 5, and was looking forward to see what his grandmother Trish bought him.
But that excitement quickly faded when Sonny was presented with a giant Supercheap Auto tent that now sits in the living room.

'Yep. Here is what no one requested for their birthday. I mean it's similar to a book right?!' Mel, who blogs as The Modern Mumma, wrote on Facebook.
'Every time I suggest something to my mother-in-law she triples it in size and noise level.
'I know why, her son was an absolute w**k job as a kid and she's paying him back, which in turn makes me pay.'
The 'oversized' tent which was ordered for Sonny may not have been on the toddler's wishlist but he now thinks it's the 'bees knees', much to Mel's disdain.

'I can't wait for nanny day... all the kids will get a shot of Red Bull and a face full of face paint. How's your white leather lounge looking now Trish?' she said.

Her post received a number of comments from fellow mothers who understood what it was like to get 'interesting' presents from their in-law's.
'We got a Thomas the Tank Engine lawn chair set from my mother-in-law for my son's birthday one year... It was hideous and not at all useful,' one woman said.
'We kindly gave it back to her and asked if my son could use it at her house instead.'

'Oh I feel your pain... I hate Play-Doh. Everyone knows I bloody hate Play-Doh. The kids got Play-Doh for Christmas last year,' said another.
A third added: 'One Christmas my father-in-law gave us a truck load of presents for the kids, but didn't wrap them. Hubby and I had to stay up late the two nights before to wrap all of his presents and a couple of ours... he has also given them a truck load of chocolate for Easter'.
It's not known whether Mel will keep the tent on display or whether it will be returned to her mother-in-law's house.
