YAMUNANAGAR: The detective staff of Yamunanagar police arrested an accused after recovering 1.21 kg opium from his possession on Wednesday. The police said arrested accused has been identified as Ravinder Giri alias Raju of Ansal Town, Jagadhri.
Police spokesman Chamkaur Singh said, "As per the instructions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, continuous action is being taken against drug traffickers. On Wednesday, a team of detective staff was present near Kail village when they received the tip-off that Ravinder Giri alias Raju, son Vipin Giri from Ansal Town Jagadhri sells opium and even today he is coming from Uttar Pradesh side with a huge amount of opium and he will go to his house Ansal Town Jagadhri via Bhatoli."
On this information Chhotu Ram Tehsildar Jagadhri also came on the spot and the police party started checking behind the police line. Shortly after, a young man appeared on a motorcycle and when the police party stopped him and questioned, he called his name as Ravinder. A checking was conducted in front of Tehsildar and 1.21 kg opium was recovered from the possession of Ravinder. The recovered opium costs around Rs 4 lakhs.
A case under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act was registered against accused Ravinder at Jagadhri Sadar police station.
The accused was presented in court on Thursday, which sent him on one-day police remand for further investigation.
Yamunanagar SP appealed to the people of the district to cooperate with the district police in maintaining law and order and curbing criminal activities.
