Punjab govt should be ready to face agitation if CBI blocks sacrilege probe: Sikh groups

Amarinder Singh
JALANDHAR: Urging Captain Amarinder Singh government to ensure that CBI was not able to block the investigation being carried out by DIG Ranbir Singh Khattra led SIT, Sikh groups Alliance of Sikh Organizations and Darbar E Khalsa have said that in case Punjab government would fail then Sikhs would be left with no option but to resume agitation.
These Sikh groups had earlier staged dharnas outside residences of three ministers of Punjab government in which they would perform Kirtan to remind them of their promises to ensure justice in the Bargari sacrilege case. These dharnas had become an embarrassment for the state government and its ministers who had made claims in the state assembly to deliver justice in the case. However, these were continued after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the state. “In case fate of Bargari case would also be like a fixed match then Congress should be ready to face even bigger political damage than what Badals faced in 2017,” said Harjinder Singh Majhi and Sukhdev Singh, leaders of these organizations.
“It is clear that CBI is desperate to save the culprits. Earlier it carried out a shoddy probe and filed a closure report in the court but now when SIT is reaching to the neck of the Sirsa dera head it has quickly moved the court to get the probe blocked,” they said. “Punjab government should strongly defend its decision to continue the probe from SIT and a special panel of advocates should be made for the purpose,” they said.
They also demanded that blasphemy case of 2007 registered against dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim should be opened again as SAD-BJP government helped him to get off the hook.
