He took advantage of the situation, sn...Read MoreKANPUR: Amid the extensive search to nab dreaded elusive gangster- Vikas Dubey, the Police shot dead two of his close aides identified as Prabhat Mishra and Bauwa Dubey simultaneously in Kanpur and Etawah on Thursday morning.
The two carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on their head and were accused of trapping and killing eight policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police, in the ambush in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur on July 2.
Arrested on Wednesday by Haryana Police from Faridabad, the close aide of the gangster - Prabhat Mishra - was gunned down in an early Thursday morning encounter by cops near Bhaunti area under the limits of Panki police station.
"The encounter occurred while we were bringing Prabhat to Kanpur from Faridabad on a transit remand. As soon as one of the tyres of police vehicle got punctured in Panki area, the accused taking advantage of the situation pounced on one of our team members and snatched a firearm from him and opened fire at the police team leaving two STF (Special Task Force) sleuths injured. In self-defence, our team members too opened fire. After a while, our team checked the surroundings and found that the accused had been shot," said UP ADG law and order Prashant Kumar.
Prabhat had accompanied Vikas Dubey from Kanpur to Faridabad where a relative named Ankur, gave him shelter.
"Similarly, around 3am on the highway near Mahewa under the limits of Bakewar police area of Etawah, a Swift Dzire car DL-1ZA-3602 was looted by four armed SUV borne assailants. At around 4.30am, however, they were intercepted at Kachaura road under the limits of Civil lines police station by the police. It was when the police parties chased them, the Swift Dzire collided with a tree and criminals fired shots at the police team. In the retaliatory action, one criminal identified as Bauwa Dubey sustained critical injuries. Dubey was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. One pistol, a rifle and several cartridges have been recovered. Three others managed to escape on the SUV. All bordering districts police have been alerted and massive checking drive is under way," the ADG added further.
Earlier on Wednesday, police had shot dead an aide of gangster Vikas Dubey, arrested six others alleged accomplices.
The police had arrested two police personnel, including Chaubeypur station officer Vinay Tiwari and Bikru
beat in-charge KK Sharma. Both are accused of fleeing the encounter site and putting the lives of other policemen in danger.
Also, the complete staff, including 68 police constables, were sent to police lines from Chaubeypur police station.
The state government, meanwhile, has increased the reward on Vikas Dubey from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. The FIR lodged by police after the Bikru ambush named 21 people and mentioned 50-60 others.
