CHENNAI: Aavin launched five new milk products including spiced buttermilk on Wednesday. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami launched the products in the presence of ministers and officials.

“Unlike regular buttermilk, the newly-introduced buttermilk has a blend of ginger, lemon, basil, pepper, cumin, asafoetida, curry leaves, coriander and salt to boost immunity,” said a statement from Aavin. A 200-ml bottle will be sold for Rs 15.

Similarly, choco lassi, mango lassi, UHT milk and tea mate was also launched. Each 200-ml pack would be priced at Rs 23. The Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk in flexi packs was also introduced.

The milk is processed at high temperature and will remain unspoiled for up to 90 days at room temperature. A 500-ml packet will be sold for `30. The milk packet contains 4.5 per cent fat and 8.5 per cent protein.

In order to cater to the growing demand for high-fat milk in hotels and tea shops, Aavin launched ‘Tea Mate’ milk for Rs 60 per litre. “The milk contains 9 per cent protein and 6.5 per cent fat, “ added the statement.

‘Don’t include income for determining creamy layer in OBCs’
Chennai: Referring to reports that the Central government was considering a revision to the criteria for determining ‘creamy layer’ among Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday, in a letter, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to include salary and agricultural income as criteria for determining the ‘creamy layer’. He suggested that the Centre could provide reservations as per the Tamil Nadu model to benefit the OBCs across the country equitably and in a manner that rendered complete social justice.

Issue entry passes to TN fishermen: EPS to Pinarayi
Chennai: Noting that around 1,100 fishing boats from Kanniyakumari were stranded in and around Kerala, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami wrote to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday requesting issuance of entry passes for the fishermen. In the letter, Palaniswami, mentioned that 350 mechanised boats and 750 traditional boats are presently anchored in fishing harbour landing centres and that the fishers were unable to carry out maintenance due to the restrictions. Hence, they should be issued entry passes and also permitted to resume fishing from August 1.
