Chandigarh: Work from home for non-teaching staff

CHANDIGARH: The education department on Monday directed heads of colleges to let non-teaching staff work from home till July 31 following the orders of the ministry of human resource and development.
College principals were asked to ensure online admission process and other related activities are carried on smoothly and required staff be called at their own level for the purpose.
Rubinderjit Singh Brar, director higher education said, “Colleges are issuing work from home orders following the letter of the ministry. School teachers will continue to come.” “We are bringing our children also to school since we have nowhere to leave them. We are risking their health as well as ours. You never know when and how one can contract the virus,” said a teacher from a government school.
The order issued by the ministry said, “In order to ensure safety of faculty members, teachers, researchers and non-teaching staff of the higher educational institutions, precautions like encouraging employees to continue to workfrom-home till July 31 should be taken. Faculty members, teachers and researchers should utilise this period for various academic activities.”
The ministry letter said the period should be counted as being on duty for all faculty members, teachers, researchers, and non-teaching staff, including those on adhoc and teachers on contract.
