Railway officials said on Monday that special trains will now run only once a week in Howrah in West Bengal and in hotspot areas of Coronovirus including Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The Mamta Banerjee administration in West Bengal had urged the Indian Railways to reduce the number of trains from hotspot areas as the number of Kovid-19 patients in the state has been reaching new heights almost every day in the last one week.


A South Eastern Railway spokesperson said that instead of daily trains, only one train would run between Howrah and Ahmedabad every week. The Howrah-Ahmedabad Special will start every Friday from July 10, while the Ahmedabad-Howrah Special will leave every Monday from July 13.

Similarly, Howrah-Mumbai CSMT Special will depart from Howrah every Wednesday from July 15, while Mumbai CSMT-Howrah will depart from Mumbai every Friday from July 17.

Special trains between Howrah and New Delhi - both Patna and Via Dhanbad will also start once a week from July 11. These trains used to run at least three to four times a week.

Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had suspended flights to Kolkata from 6 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai and Ahmedabad between July 6 and 19. No such restrictions were imposed on flying from Kolkata and traveling to six cities.

02834 / 02833- Howrah-Ahmedabad Express special train will open daily from 10 July from Howrah on Friday, and from Ahmedabad on Monday from 13 July.

02810/02809-Howrah-Mumbai CSTM special train will be open on every Wednesday from Howrah from 15 July and every Friday from Mumbai CSMT from 17 July in lieu of daily.

02304 - New Delhi - Howrah Special (via Patna) will leave from New Delhi only on Sunday from 12 July. Now it runs for 4 days in a week.

02303- Howrah-New Delhi Special Train (Via Patna) will leave Howrah on Saturday only from 11 July. Now it runs for 4 days in a week.

02381- Howrah-New Delhi Special (via Dhanbad) will open from Howrah on Thursday only on 16 July.

02382- New Delhi- Howrah Special (via Dhanbad) will open from New Delhi only on Friday from 17 July. Now it runs for 3 days in a week.
