Seems like Facebook too wants to cash on the opportunity created after the TikTok ban in India. Facebook-owned Instagram is reportedly planning to bring its short-video making feature to India. Called Instagram Reels, the feature is being tested with select users in the country, according to Business Insider.

Incidentally, Facebook recently announced that it is shutting down its TikTok rival, Lasso. While Lasso is an entirely different app, Reels is a feature within Instagram.

Instagram Reels will allow users to record short videos with music and audio clips. The video can be about 15 seconds long and could be shared as Instagram Stories. It is already available to the users in France and Germany and is being tested in Brazil as well.

A Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider, "We're planning to start testing an updated version of Reels in more countries. Reels is a fun, creative way for people to both express themselves and be entertained. We're excited to bring this new version to more of our global community. No further plans to share on launch date or countries for now.”

As for Lasso, the app will be pulled off on July 10. The company has sent notification to its users informing them about the app being closed down the next week. For those unaware, Facebook Lasso was launched in 2018 in the US and in the year 2019 in Mexico. It was available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store for download. The app wasn’t launched in India. As per reports, Facebook is also sending in-app notifications to the app’s users with instructions on how to download Lasso videos.
