NEW DELHI: Participating in a meeting of regional partners on Afghanistan, India on Monday said that in order to achieve durable peace in the war-torn country, putting an end to terrorist sanctuaries and safe havens is an essential pre-requisite. Both India and the government in Kabul have repeatedly raised concerns about Pakistan’s support to terrorists active in Afghanistan.
India was represented at the meeting, Strengthening Consensus for Peace, hosted by the Afghanistan government, by newly appointed joint secretary (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran) J P Singh, who has served for several years in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. The meeting was chaired by Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. Twenty countries and international organisations, including United Nations, participated in the meeting.
