Checkpost in East Singhbhum sealed after employee tests +ve

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration closed the check post at Dumohoni bridge on Monday after a staff tested positive for Covid-19.
Notably, the administration had set up 12 check posts at various entry points in the district to prepare a list of those coming from other states or districts of Jharkhand by road. On-spot swab collection of the migrants was also carried out at these check posts.
Sources said the staffer had recently gone to Bihar to attend a marriage ceremony and returned on July 1. He joined work the following day.
After the employee was found Covid positive, all the other six persons working at the check post and their respective family members were put on home quarantine. Their samples have also been collected for Covid test.
With this check post shut, vehicles entering the Steel City from NH-33 have been diverted to other check posts.
The Covid-positive staffer had allegedly gone to Bihar without informing his seniors and resumed duty after coming back. His home in the Ramnagar area of the city has been sealed.
Meanwhile, senior INTUC leader Rakeshwar Pandey and trade union leader Ambuj Thakur were found Covid negative. The duo were put in paid institutional quarantine at a city hotel after they had taken part in an agitation at the deputy commissioner’s office recently.
The administration had sent the leaders to quarantine after the latter were found violating social-distancing norms at the protest site. They were allowed to go home on Sunday, after their reports came back negative.
In yet another incident, an area in Pardesi Para under Sonari police station was turned into a containment zone after a 55-year-old man, who returned from Kolkata recently, was found Covid positive. Five of his family members have been sent to Kadma quarantine centre. The house has been sealed and contact-tracing is being carried out.
