Heavy rain in Saurashtra, 350 evacuated in Jamnagar

Rescue operations by NDRF teams in Jamnagar
RAJKOT: Over 350 people were evacuated and seven persons rescued after they were trapped in the flow of turbulent water in Jamnagar district due to heavy rain since the last three days.
According to the district administration, almost all dams of Jamnagar district are overflowing. The teams of NDRF deputed has started evacuation and rescue operation along with district administration. The district administration evacuated 65 people from Nikava village of Kalavad taluka while 30 people from Kalavad municipal area shifted to municipal highs cool. There are 11 people evacauted from Vagadia area while 50 people of Chela village shifted to CTC college with the help of fire brigade.
According to a statement issued by Jamnagar district administration, NDRF team started rescue operation in Badanpar and Jodiya village and 305 people have been evacuated so far. Five persons trapped in Dhragda village have been rescued and a person is missing after he drowned in Nani Vavdi village of Kalavad taluka.
Several roads in Jamnagar district -- Jambuda Patiya, Porbandar-Lalpur-Jamnagar highway and Jamnagar Samana highway -- are closed. Jamnagar district collector Ravi Shankar issued advisory asking people not to move in low lying areas of dam and river belt and not to venture in drain, lakes and rivers as water flow is unpredictable because of heavy rain. In last two days, 14mm to 130mm rainfall have been received in various talukas of district.
Rainfall continued in Junagadh district also, Narsinh Mehta lake in the middle of the city is overflowing. A cause is cave in between Mendarda and Dadhali village in Junagadh district which disrupted internal traffic.
