Voluntary 5-day lockdown to take effect in Borim today

Ponda: Taking into consideration the rise in COVID-19 cases in the village, the Borim village panchayat has decided to enforce a five-day lockdown from Wednesday to Sunday.

According to deputy sarpanch Sunil Sawakar, the panchayat has taken this decision in an attempt to curtail spread of coronavirus in the village.

The village panchayat has issued a notice to all shops and establishment owners to shut down operations for five days. The panchayat has also urged builders to stop construction activities in the village for five days. Similarly, the village panchayat has made announcement about the lockdown through awareness rickshaw in all wards of the village urging people to stay home and support the lockdown, Sawakar informed.

According to Sawakar till Tuesday evening, 10 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the village and it’s high time that people act responsibly.

Sawakar also said that it is not a forced lockdown and it is up to the people to follow it or not. During this period, all essential services will be available and people will be provided with essential items in case of any emergency, he said.
