FAIRHAVEN — Police are seeking criminal charges against a father and his daughter for fight July 1 in the parking lot of McDonald's, police said.
Police are seeking charges of two counts of assault and battery against a 51-year-old Fairhaven man and one count of malicious destruction of property under $1,200 against his 18-year-old daughter who is also from Fairhaven, according to a news release from Lt. Kevin Kobza, a spokesman for the Fairhaven Police Department.
Police filed applications for the complaints Tuesday in New Bedford District Court, he said.
The two individuals are not identified in the news release. A clerk magistrate will hear the facts of the case and determine if there is probable cause to bring a charge and for the case to go forward.
The courts don't release information about criminal summons process until probable cause is found.
Fairhaven police responded to the parking lot at McDonald's, 14 Plaza Way, about 9 p.m. July on a report of a fight, Kobza said in the release. Officers found the two suspects at the scene and spoke to them.
After an investigation, police determined that the 18-year-old woman got into an argument with another woman and her woman's boyfriend a short time earlier, police said. There is a history of animosity between the two women.
The 18-year-old returned to the McDonald's with her father and confronted the other woman and her boyfriend who had not left the parking lot, police said.
The 51-year-old Fairhaven man and the boyfriend got into a fight and the girlfriend tried to break up the fight and the man pushed the girlfriend out of the way, police said.
During the altercation, the 18-year-old kicked a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, causing minor damage, police said.
Both men sustained minor injuries and no one was hospitalized, police said.
Police interviewed several people and review surveillance video during their investigation, police said. The investigation was completed Tuesday with the filing of criminal complaints in New Bedford District Court.
