Guwahati: Assam Director General of police (SGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that Assam Police has evolved the system of following up of each positive case by way of individually talking to them and finding out the well-being and other details of the person. This is done on every day basis.

Mahanta said police is grateful to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for proactive encouragement of the police personnel on field and also by way of telephonic contact on every aspect of policing during the trying time. The chief minister calls up the DGP and other officials at least three times a day.

Assam police has also prepared 26 bedded sophisticated accommodation along with Medical facilities at Dergaon.

He added, “Another covid care centre of high quality is in final stage for service at 16th Assam police (IR) battalion at Bormonipur. We have nearly a hundred quarantine centres dedicated to police in different parts of the state. Around 250 Nursing staff have been trained to handle Police patients.”

The DGP said that since Assam Police is part of the greater society of Assam, it is accepting the challenge with grace like the people of Assam are doing. “Some Police Personnel becoming covid positive is no way deterring Assam Police in its service delivery, anti-insurgency operations crime control and general helping hand for the people in distress. Our continued operation during the Covid period against anti-national aliments, illicit arms, drugs, etc. is going on unabated and startling success has been achieved during the last three months”.

Assam has 11,001 postive cases, except Guwahati which is under complete lockdown; the state is witnessing weekend lockdown.
