Representative imageNOIDA: Despite the Kanpur incident, the UP police seems to be hard at learning lessons. In the aftermath of the DGP office issuing a list of 33 most notorious gangsters in the state, the district police started the process of attachment of property of six major gangsters and seven of their aides.
However, during the process of verification of the property of one of the gang members - Chandrapal Bhati, a gangster from Bombawad village, a team of police was surrounded by over 30 people from the village including the gangster's kin who videographed the cops and alleged that cops were trying to seize the vehicles that his son got in his wedding and indulged in jostling with the only male constable present at the spot-without a safety gear.
The team consisting of one male constable and four female constables, went to Chandrapal’s house in Bombawad village around 3 am on Saturday, which his family described a “raid” and claimed that the cops wanted to take away a Mahindra SUV.
“This vehicle we have got in the wedding and they are asking to send it. The raid has been conducted at 3 am in Bombawad village. The entire village has gathered here and everyone knows we have got it in the wedding but they are forcefully slapping a case,” a relative videographing the cops can be heard saying.
The only male constable who is seen wearing a mask, can be seen hiding his name plate as the videographer and the villagers tend to ask his name repeatedly. The villagers jostle with the constable who says, “Is it forceful? Let seniors come,” he says.
The female constables can be heard saying how they can misbehave and touch the constable.
The constable who is wearing no safety gear is seen only holding a stick in his hand. He can later be seen making a phone call, possibly to seniors.
While senior police officers described it only a visit by local cops to the accused’s house to verify the details of his property, sources told TOI that the police had to later visit the spot again with more police force and attached two buses belonging to Chandrapal, leaving behind the SUV. Two of the villagers were arrested.
DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander told TOI that the the cops went to the spot on Saturday morning not as part of a raid but in fact as a visit for verification of property of Chandrapal and his family.
“This was not a raid and only a visit for verification of property which is an internal procedure of the police to check if the gangster is in the house or not. The raid was carried out later and two buses were seized from the spot. The SUV was not seized,” he said.
Badalpur SHO Pathneesh Yadav told TOI that they have booked 33 people including six named persons and the rest unknown persons under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 147 (punishment for rioting), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The six named accused include Chandrapal’s wife Suresh, his son Nitish, Ankit, Adesh, Pawan, Rupesh.
Police have arrested Pawan and Rupesh who belong to the village and say the family of the gangster have left the village.
