Former panch of Rassaim area in Loutolim and his brother tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday night making these the first two cases in that area of the village panchayat.
Earlier, four COVID positive cases were reported in the Carvota ward of the village panchayat of Loutolim; all the four patients have recovered now.
Sources said the duo contracted the infection while working in a factory at the Verna industrial estate. “Soon after we were informed about these positive cases, we collected the details of the family with the help of panchayat members and prepared a list of people, who needed testing,” said Dr Vinesh Gaonkar, the health officer of the Loutolim health centre. He said information about the source of the infection has been communicated to the concerned health centre.
The local panch said the panchayat has sanitised the areas with the help of fire and emergency services personnel. “Both brothers have been shifted to a COVID care centre. Contact tracing is also being carried out,”
he said.
Meanwhile, people in Carvota area of Loutolim are relieved, as all the four infected persons from the ward have recovered; they were sent home last week.
