BHUBANESWAR: Two more persons succumbed to
Covid-19 in the last 24 hours increasing the total death toll to 36 in the state on Sunday. Another Covid patient died due to comorbidities, taking the number of deaths of such patients owing to reasons other than the life-threatening virus to 10.
A 40-year-old male Covid-19 patient of Gajapati district and a 64-year-old male Covid-19 patient of
Sundargarh district, who was also suffering from diabetes, died of the virus on Sunday. A 45-year-old female Covid-19 positive patient of
Balasore district died due to 'massive hemorrhagic exudative pleaural
effusion', the health and family welfare department said. Odisha logged 469 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of infected persons in the state to 9,070 on Sunday. Among the fresh cases, 317 were in quarantine centres and 152 were local cases.
Ganjam continued to top the list of Covid-19 patients with the highest number of new cases (116) followed by 94 in Cuttack, 66 in Sundargarh, 27 in Khurda, 25 each in Jajpur and Keonjhar, 24 in Nayagarh, 16 in Bhadrak, 13 in Sambalpur, 12 in Gajapati, 11 in Angul, eight each in Balasore and Puri, six in Mayurbhanj, five in Kendrapada, three in Balangir, two each in Kalahandi and Nabarangpur and one each in
Malkangiri and Kandhamal.
Besides, four NDRF personnel, who had gone to West Bengal on post-Amphan rehabilitation duty, also tested positive. As many as 19 new cases were detected in Bhubaneswar, taking the total number of positive cases in the capital city to 433. Similarly, 74 new cases were found in Cuttack city alone taking the total number of infected persons to 190. Meanwhile, Odisha witnessed a record number of 290 Covid-19 recoveries in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,224.
