NHRC forms expert panel to study COVID impact on human rights
The expert panel would be headed by Dr K S Reddy, president of Public Health Foundation of India. The expert committee would assess the impact of Covid-19 on human rights of people, especially marginalised and vulnerable sections of the society, including migrant labourers. The expert panel would also suggest the future policy for the Centre and state governments. The committee has public health experts and members of civil society who have vast experience in the social sector and human rights.

Covid-19: 10 states, 1 UT to allow rapid antigen tests
After a nudge from the Centre to scale up testing for Covid-19, ten high case-load states and a union territory are set to introduce rapid antigen tests which give “highly specific” results in 30 minutes.
After Delhi and Maharashtra, states of Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka and the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will deploy the rapid antigen testing kits in containment zones, according to sources.

Saudi Arabia announces haj health measures for domestic pilgrims
Saudi Arabia decided in June to limit the number of domestic pilgrims attending the haj to around 1,000.
Touching the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam will be banned during the haj this year.
A social distancing space of a meter and a half between each pilgrim during the rituals.
Also, access to holy haj sites at Mona, Muzdalifah, and Arafat will be limited to those with haj permits starting Sunday, July 19 till Aug. 2, 2020.
Wearing masks all the time will be mandatory for both pilgrims and organizers.

Iran confirms damaged nuclear site was centrifuge facility
Iran has confirmed that a damaged building at the underground Natanz nuclear site was a new centrifuge assembly centre, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Iranian officials had previously sought to downplay the fire, which erupted early on Thursday, calling it only an “incident” that affected an “industrial shed.” However, a released photo and video of the site broadcast by Iranian state television showed a two-storey brick building with scorch marks and its roof apparently destroyed.

Founder of S African Hindu political party succumbs to COVID-19
Jayraj Bachu, a founding member and national leader of South Africa's only Hindu political party, has succumbed to COVID-19. He was 75.
The Durban resident Bachu was cremated on Saturday.
His son Umesh told the weekly Sunday Tribune that his father passed away less than a week after he was admitted to hospital after an antibiotics course failed to address an influenza infection.

Airtel zooms in on video app for companies
Bharti Airtel plans to shortly launch its own branded video conferencing tool for startups and enterprises to tap into the surging demand for such services, taking on the likes of Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams and the recently launched JioMeet.
“Airtel is close to launching several enterprise-grade products including a unified videoconferencing tool very shortly,” a person aware of the telco’s plans said. The initial plan is to launch the product for enterprises — so likely on a paid basis — but the company may look at offering it to regular customers after seeing the demand.

Oil prices mixed as coronavirus spike casts shadow over U.S. demand
Oil prices offered up a mixed market snapshot on Monday, with Brent crude edging higher, supported by tighter supplies, while U.S. benchmark WTI futures dropped on concern that a spike in coronavirus cases could curb oil demand in the United States.
Brent crude rose 11 cents, or 0.3%, to $42.91 a barrel by 0109 GMT after a 4.3% gain last week, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $40.35, down 30 cents, or 0.7%, from its previous settlement on Thursday. U.S. markets were closed on Friday to mark July 4 holiday celebrations.

Taj Mahal remains shut as India reports record daily virus cases
