THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government is unlikely to make changes in the revised schedule for KEAM entrance examination set for July 16. That is because the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had on Thursday asked all states to complete the procedures for admission to engineering colleges by August 30 and start classes by September 15.
"We are going ahead with the current schedule. Anyway, various other examinations are held in the state by adhering to the precautionary measures recommended by the government. Also, we are not sure about the possibility of conducting the examinations in more favorable circumstances. The new admission schedule AICTE has shared with us doesn't permit any more schedule change," said A Geetha, state commissioner for entrance examinations.
The initial schedule for entrance for admission to engineering and allied professional medical courses in institutions within the state was April 20 and 21. After the pandemic struck the dates were revised and as per an announcement on May 18, it was set for July 16 to be completed in a single by in two schedules.
The commissioner for entrance examinations had allowed students to change examination centres and over 100 of them in the Gulf had reportedly opted for a centre in Dubai.
"The travel restrictions and uncertainties during these times must have prompted these candidates to cancel their trips to Kerala. An almost equal number of students have opted for centres in Mumbai and New Delhi," sources said. The state entrance test is for the selection of candidates eligible for admission to Engineering/architecture and B.Pharm courses.
