Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation forms committee in 100 wards to check Covid-19 cases

GHAZIABAD: In its bid to aid the health department in containing spread of Covid-19, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has constituted a 3-member committee in all its 100 wards of the municipal. The committee comprising of councillor of the ward, GMC’s cleanliness supervisor and Asha worker has been tasked to keep an eye on potential Covid-19 hotspots in each ward and ensure proper sanitization and cleanliness work are carried.
“The GMC which have been at the forefront to tackle Covid-19 pandemic has formed a committee in each of its 100 wards which will be primarily keep track of possible Covid patients and movement of people into its wards from other states” said Dinesh Chandra, municipal commissioner. “Though there is surveillance team from health department which are primarily tasked to carry out such work and the our 3- member inspection committee will aid them in their work” added Chandra.
“Sanitization and cleanliness drives which are being carried out in each ward on war footing this committee will also look for areas where the issue of cleanliness is not being taken up in an effective manner” said Chandra. In containment zones the role of committee is to act as go between health department and residents.
Rajender Tyagi councillor of ward number 84 said “the health department is already overburdened as number of cases keeps on rising and GMC’s on its part is already engaged in sanitization drives but yet there was need of proper coordination between the two departments.”
“The committee will have full list of people who have moved into each wards and will also ensure that 14-day isolation and other precautions are being fulfilled by them or not and in case if it is not will straight away inform health department for their perusal,” said Chandra.
“The committee which will headed by councillor of the ward will be in touch with the health department and will share inputs with each other to ensure that cases in each ward remains under check,” added Tyagi.
