Two rape cases are expected to come before courts in the Northern Cape - one involving a man accused of the rape of a 5-year-old girl and another involving three accused who allegedly raped a 7-year-old girl.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, members of Galeshewe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the rape of the 5-year-old girl.

It is alleged that the girl was raped in Mataleng, Barkley West, from 1 February to 26 March.

"At the time of the incidents, the victim was staying with her grandmother as her parents [are] working outside Barkley West. The child's ordeal was uncovered on 1 July and police were later notified. The suspect is expected to appear before the local magistrate's court soon and any attempt by the suspect to be released on bail will be opposed," Ramatseba said.

In the second case, three men aged 29, 30 and 60 - who allegedly raped the 7-year-old girl - are to appear before the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Several rape incidents were reportedly committed between January and 25 June.

The incidents were reportedly committed on a farm outside Kimberley, Ramatseba said.

Investigations are continuing.
