Bryson DeChambeau says he has shown there is "another way" to play golf after sealing a first PGA Tour win since bulking out his physique.

The American produced a seven-under-par final-round 65 to beat compatriot Matthew Wolf by three shots at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

DeChambeau, who has purposely gained 45lbs in weight in nine months, averaged 350 yards off the tee.

"It's a little emotional for me," said DeChambeau, 26.

"Because I did do something a little different, I changed my body, I changed my mindset in the game, and was able to accomplish a win while playing a completely different style of golf.

"I've shown people that there's another way to do it."

DeChambeau now has seven consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour.

He added 20lbs of his overall weight gain during the sport's coronavirus shutdown and he now tops the Tour's average drive figures for the 2020 season at 323 yards.

American Kevin Kisner, who finished third on 18 under - two shots behind Wolff and five off DeChambeau - said the winner has "changed the entire way the game is played."

DeChambeau overhauled a three-shot overnight lead held by Wolff thanks to eight birdies in his final round.

He quickly led thanks to four birdies in seven holes but after Wolff rallied to cut the lead to one, DeChambeau fired three birdies on the closing three holes to seal the sixth PGA Tour win over his career.

Elsewhere in the field English duo Danny Willett and Tyrrell Hatton finished seven shots off the lead in a four-way tie for fourth with Canada's Adam Hadwin and American Ryan Armour on 16 under.

England's Tom Lewis and Matt Wallace were tied for 12th on 14 under.

DeChambeau. Heading up the new breed of super-inward-focused-muscle-bound golfers relying on tonking it 350 yards. Just all a bit dull. He'll enjoy much tour success and few Ryder Cup pair wins.
There's more to it that muscle...Geoff Capes was famously rubbish at golf. Hitting it hard and straight is an art. Fair play to the guy. Found a way to make himself be able to compete with more "skillful" players.
Driving long is good , but it’ll always be the 100 yards from fairway to hole that decides the winners . Muscle doesn’t help wedging & putting !
I've also bulked up by around 45lbs recently but it hasn't improved my golf.

If this becomes the norm then golf is rapidly going to become unwatchable. US golf is boring to watch as it is without 500yd par 4's being reachable easily with lofted clubs and being thought of as birdie holes.

More rough is needed, narrower fairways and maybe even a change of balls to stop the rot.
His transformation is an amazing example of what can be achieved when you put focus in to a game plan. His swing may look ugly, his methods might be unconventional, but it's working. Can't argue against it. He's identified the most important factor for hitting lower scores and worked relentlessly over the past 9 months to get himself in shape.
Oh well. Can’t stand the self entitled oaf.
On the US tour BD can smash it anywhere and have a shot to the green, I don’t think that would work on tighter more punitive courses elsewhere but it is entertaining for some.
There definitely needs to be a variation in ball if this is where the game is going.

Would be nice to see all players going back to using actual woods.
Then again Iv'e often thought that about the oversized highly sprung tennis rackets the pros use .

Nice to see a return to Slazingers and Dunlops with the wooden frames to stop them from warping
Wolff should have been awarded the win just for the jaunty little thing he does before he drives
