Pune: Deputy Chairman and Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Dr Neelam Gorhe, has claimed that the Air Conditioning (AC) systems running in government offices or municipal corporation buildings are responsible for the spread of coronavirus infection in political leaders, government officers and staff. She has also asked Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner, Shekhar Gaikwad to stop using AC inside the PMC building.
Dr Gorhe made these suggestions and remarks during a meeting of political leaders, representatives and bureaucrats over video conference. Member of Parliament Supriya Sule, Girish Bapat, Vandana Chavan, Member of Legislative Assembly Chetan Tupe and others participated in the meeting. The meeting was organised against the backdrop of Mayor Murlidhar, other corporators and more than 150 employees of PMC testing positive for COVID-19.
Dr Gorhe has asked Divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar to ensure that instructions regarding AC's given by Health Minister Rajesh Tope will be followed in government offices. She has also asked PMC Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad to stop using AC in Corporation buildings.
MP Supriya Sule said that elected people's representatives will not be able to attend every meeting, so they should explore the option of attending meetings through video conferencing, google meet or hangouts.
MP Girish Bapat raised the issue of unavailability of beds in COVID-hospitals and also a shortage of ambulances. "We can't advise citizens who have tested positive for Covid-19 regarding which hospital should be approached for a vacant bed. Common people are suffering due to this," said MLA Tupe.
Dr Mhaisekar assured them that all representatives will get an update on their WhatsApp everyday at 4 pm on bed availability in various hospitals.
MP Vandana Chavan suggested that the administration should make a self-explanatory video about how a patient should conduct himself when he reaches a quarantine centre. Dr Mhaisekar assured her that such a video will immediately be released for the benefit of citizens.
