BOSTON --- Opening Day against the Orioles, 13 combined road games against the Yankees and Rays and a visit from the defending World Series champions highlight the shortened 2020 Red Sox schedule.

Boston will begin its 60-game sprint to the finish July 24 against Baltimore. It’s a 7:30 p.m. start on that Friday night at Fenway Park, and all night home games this season will move back 20 minutes from the customary 7:10 p.m. first pitch.

The Red Sox play 40 games against American League East foes, and the majority of their 20 against two teams who figure to contend to a division crowd come on the road. Boston plays seven times in the Bronx through Aug. 16 and hosts New York for a three-game weekend set beginning Sept. 18. The Red Sox cap a three-city, seven-game road trip with two at Tampa Bay on Aug. 4-5 and visit Tropicana Field again Sept. 10-13.

Three games with the Nationals are the most noteworthy among the 20 in interleague play against the National League East. Washington visits Boston on the weekend of Aug. 28-30. The Nationals outlasted the Astros in seven games to claim last year’s Fall Classic.

The longest Red Sox homestand of the season starts in August and ends in September, a 10-game stretch against Washington, Atlanta and Toronto. Boston follows that with its longest road swing, visiting the Phillies, Rays and Marlins from Sept. 8-16. The Red Sox will finish away from home with three games against the Braves, including the Sept. 27 finale at 3:10 p.m.

Boston plays nine games in Florida, which is among the country’s current hot spots in terms of daily coronavirus cases. The Red Sox visit Tampa Bay twice and play their only three games against Miami on the road. Boston’s home state of Massachusetts has flattened the curve against the virus, reporting just 157 new cases on Monday.
