5 turn positive in Nilgiris

Udhagamandalam: The Nilgiris district recorded five new Covid-19 positive cases on Saturday, all pertaining to secondary contacts of an official of a private needle manufacturing company. With this, the number of people infected through him stands at 70.
The five cases consist of four men and a woman, residents of Kattery, Yellanhalli, Coonoor and Ketti. All of them were admitted to the Ooty Government Headquarters Hospital.
The new cases have taken the Nilgiris tally to 123. As many as 79 active cases are being treated at the government hospital in Ooty and ESI hospital in Coimbatore.
The district had reported the first Covid death, a 67-year-old Ooty man, on Thursday. He had died at the ESI hospital. The government, however, is yet to list it in the bulletin.
According to the authorities of ESI hospital, the death report was sent to the district officials in the Nilgiris, who should inform the state government.
