Covid-19: Thiruvananthapuram reports 27 positive cases on Sunday, 22 of them contact cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The capital recorded the highest single day spike in Covid-19 positives in three months on Sunday and reported the most number of cases contracted through contacts. 27 positive cases were reported in the district on Sunday of which 22 cases have been categorised as acquired through contacts. With more than 20 containment zones within corporation area and extended lockdown being implemented in certain wards, regulations are likely to be tightened in the district with so many number of persons acquiring infection through contacts.
In the past two days nearly ten cases of local transmission were reported in the district. Poonthura, Manacaud and Palayam areas are being closely monitored with many cases being reported simultaneously from Poonthura alone. The district administration has maintained that community spread has not happened in the district till now, but possibilities are higher.
With so many contact cases being reported from certain areas like Poonthura, the administration is likely to take a call on actual spread of disease within the community.
