The Maharashtra government on Monday announced extension of the general lockdown until July 31 with an aim to contain the Covid-19 surge. The notification issued by the state government has also restricted inter-district travel between municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to that for office purposes and essential activities like medical reasons.
*ANI update at 9.10am: Idol makers say Covid-19 has affected their business&they haven't been able to make sufficient Ganesh idols ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi. Sagar,an idol maker says "No worker wants to come to Mumbai,they're scared. I make 1200 idols every yr but could make only 700 this year"
*On July 7, the BMC will add over 1,000 beds and start ICUs in its jumbo facilities at MMRDA grounds in BKC and NESCO in Goregaon.
*The 1,163 new cases of Covid-19 Mumbai added on Saturday made up 17% of Maharashtra count of 7,074 cases for the day.
*Mumbai Metropolitan Region reported 2,882 cases, 40% of the total cases added in the state.
*Mumbai had lower than usual cases and deaths on Saturday. While its caseload rose to 83,237, the death toll reached 4,830.
*The BMC update said 51 out of the 68 fatality additions on Saturday had comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension or obesity. While 46 victims were males, 22 were females.
*With the doubling rate in the BMC area at 41 days, experts said the situation seemed stable for the moment. Dharavi, once the worst hot spot in the country in terms of Covid-19 cases, registered only two cases on Saturday.
