COVID-19 Pune: City reports a higher number of cases due to increased testing; over 800 cases reported per day

Pune: COVID-19 cases in the city are increasing rapidly due to a large number of tests that are now being conducted across Pune. The surge has been on the rise since June 21 last month. The number of positive patients rose from 403 on June 20, and to 600 the next day. That number is now reaching 700 to 800 new patients every day.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Pune are increasing on a daily bases. In May, the number was between 200 and 250 per day. However, the same number has now increased double-fold. Due to this, the crisis faced by citizens is getting darker by the day. However, it is important to note that this number has quadrupled in a single month, which challenged the administration of the city greatly.

The first patient of Maharashtra was found on March 9 in Pune. Subsequently, 922 patients were tested throughout March. Of those, 38 tested positive for COVID-19. The number spiked by 14 per cent in April. Of these, 10,727 were tested and 1,483 patients tested positive. In May, 38,000 people were tested and 4,954 were found to be infected. In June, 77,000 suspects were tested and 10,756 new patients tested positive. The rate of growth has been steadily increasing and it has increased significantly since June.

Infection speed doubles up

The spread of virus doubled its speed to 20 days ahead, according to the Smart City's June 22 report. Compared to the previous month, the rate of doubling is now decreased by 2 days.
