Three cops' deaths in a day take police toll in Maharashtra to 67

Three police personnel - one each from Mumbai, Thane and Raigad - died while undergoing treatment for Covid on Saturday. With this, the toll in the state police has touched 67.
In Mumbai, head constable Surendra Pol (50) died while undergoing treatment at Seven Hills Hospital, Andheri (east). He had no co-morbidities. Pol was posted in the wireless department had tested positive on June 27. He was admitted to the ICU as he felt breathless. "He is survived by his wife and a college-going son," said a crime branch officer.
His family members have been placed in quarantine at their Vikhroli home.
The second death was from Chitalsar police station in Thane. Constable Satish Desai (46) tested positive on June 25 and was admitted to Vedant Hospital.
On Thursday, he was put on ventilator," said a senior police officer. He had a massive heart attack and died around 5pm. His is the fourth police death from Thane.
The third cop, assistant sub-inspector Mahesh Kalamkar (55),was a Kalamkar resident. Raigad police PRO Suresh Yamgar said, "Kalamkar who had blood pressure problem developed uneasiness in breathing and was admitted to Sai Hospital, Chembur, on Thursday. He is survived by his wife and two children.
