THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A nursery teacher, a
tea vendor, a pharmacist, a nurse, fish vendors, a headload worker and four children including a 2-year-old boy were among the 22 persons who acquired infection through contacts in the district on Sunday as the capital recorded the highest single day spike in
Covid-19 positive cases in 3 months and reported the most number of cases contracted through contacts.
It's for the first time that the district has witnessed transmission of disease beyond immediate family members of persons who tested positive without travel history or without contact with Covid positive patient. Sunday also saw number of contact cases far outnumbering imported cases in the district since March.
27 positive cases were reported in the district on Sunday of which 22 cases have been categorised as acquired through contacts. With more than 20 containment zones within corporation area and extended lockdown being implemented in certain wards, triple lockdown will be implemented in the city limits with so many number of persons acquiring infection through contacts.
In the past two days nearly ten cases of local transmission were reported in the district. Poonthura,
Manacaud and Palayam areas are being closely monitored with many cases being reported simultaneously from Poonthura alone. The district administration has maintained that community spread has not happened in the district till now, but possibilities are higher.
The persons who contracted infection through contacts include a 39-year-old male from Muttathara, a 28-year-old female from Manacaud, a 44-year-old male from Manacaud, an 18-year-old female from Poonthura, a 15-year-old boy from Poonthura, a 14-year-old girl from Poonthura, a 39-year-old female from Poonthura, a 12-year-old boy from Uchakkada, a 2-year-old boy from Uchakkada, a 42-year-old male from Pulluvila, a 65-year-old male from Vallakadavu, a 36-year-old male from Poonthura, an 8-year-old girl from Kaladi, a 42-year-old female from Pettah, a 62-year-old male from Vanchiyur, a 29-year-old male from Muttathara, a 51-year-old male from Manacaud, a 29-year-old male from Manacaud, a 29-year-old female from Chempazhanthi,a 22-year-old female from Manacaud, a 70-year-old male from Manacaud and a 46-year-old male from Muttathara.
The other positive cases include a 60-year-old man from
Manambur who arrived from Oman, a 29-year-old man who arrived from UAE, a 47-year-old man who arrived from
Kuwait, his 1-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl. Results of samples of numerous primary contacts of cases without evident sources of infection are being awaited in the district .
