Udhagamandalam: The transfer of Sathankulam additional superintendent of police (ADSP) D Kumar to the Nilgiris as ADSP has not gone down well with the people in the district.
The Nilgiris All Political Party Federation (NAPPF) has petitioned the district superintendent of police V Sasikumar seeking his intervention to convey their apprehension about the posting of Kumar to higher officials in Chennai.
Meanwhile, the residents have started an online signature campaign, objecting to the posting of Kumar. The campaign is addressed to the director general of police.
In its petition, NAPPF said the transfer of the police officer, who headed the Sathankulam police jurisdiction, to the Nilgiris was condemned by the people of the Nilgiris and them. “Hence, the people’s view and the anticipated abnormal circumstances due to the transfer order may be conveyed to the government and the chief of police.”
Stating Kumar must be held responsible for permitting such a crime - custodial death of P Jeyraj and J Bennicks - to take place in his jurisdiction in Sathankulam police station, the Nilgiris citizens’ signature campaign said, “We don’t require any of our departments to be headed by a tainted police official, who could corrupt the minds of other officers. We fear Kumar will not hesitate to continue his violent and inhuman behaviour. We request you to kindly cancel his posting to the Nilgiris.”
