PANAJI: Health minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said it has been decided to enhance the fleet of ambulances in view of rising Covid-9 cases.
“In light of the rising cases, we will reactivate the file of seven additional ambulances and secretary health will take it up with the chief minister for approval at the earliest to add on to the existing fleet dedicated to Covid-19 patients,” Rane said.
Presently, the fleet of GVK EMRI handles both Covid and routine cases. On Saturday, secretary health Nila Mohanan admitted that a shortage of ambulances was felt in transporting Covid-19 patients. There were slight delays in picking up patients. They, nonetheless, are picked up in the shortest duration possible, she said.
People who test positive are either transferred to ESI hospital or a covid care centre depending on the status of patients. All asymptomatic patients are transferred Covid care centre while symptomatic patients are taken to ESI hospital for treatment.
