Haryana: Four held for molesting, thrashing Dalit woman

The accused were allegedly drunk, say victims outside govt hospital
JIND: The police have arrested four persons for allegedly thrashing and molesting a Dalit woman and later attacking a locality of Dalits and beating up around a dozen of them.
The incident took place on Thursday when the woman had gone to fetch water from a hand pump. One of the accused, Aasish, who was taking bath there in an inebriated state, stopped her from taking water. When she objected to his behaviour, he allegedly thrashed and molested her and used castes remarks against her.
Talking to TOI, one of the victims Sandeep Kumar said, “When we took the matter to the village sarpanch, the accused attacked our colony in retaliation and threatened to kill us. They also damaged the hand pump.”
Julana SHO Surender Singh said, “We have arrested the four accused —Sandeep, Aasish, Dasrath and Vikash — and lodged an FIR under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC and the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and launched a probe into the matter.”
Sarpanch Surender Singh said, “I came to know that the youth were drunk when they assaulted the Dalit woman and others. DSP Kaptan Singh has reached the village to ensure law and order.”
