NAGPUR: With 175 new positive cases on Saturday, Vidarbha recorded the highest-ever single day surge since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier, the one-day highest spike was 170 on June 28. The total number of cases in the region has now surged to 5275. The first four days of July added 631 new cases.
July has also added 15
Covid-19 deaths in the first four days. For the first time in this month, 6 deaths were reported in a day from Vidarbha on Saturday. Four of them were from Akola, while two were from Amravati. The Covid-19 death toll of Vidarbha is now 172.
More disturbing is the age-group of the deceased. In Akola, a 36-year-old man from Balapur, who was admitted since June 23, died on July 3 late at night while a 24-year-old girl from Barshi-Takli died on July 4 afternoon. She was admitted since June 30. Sources said that both these patients had severe comoribities.
The other two deceased from Akola were men, both 72-year-olds. One of them from Akot was admitted on July 2 while the other was from Khair Mohammad Plots and was admitted since June 29.
In Amravati, a 52-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man died while undergoing treatment.
AKOLA: Apart from the six deaths, Akola recorded 48 new cases on July 4, taking the total number of cases to 1665. The Covid-19 death toll of Akola is now 88. The fatality rate is 5.28%. In all, 33 patients recovered on July 4, taking the total number of recovered patients to 1255. Akola’s recovery rate is 75.37%.
AMRAVATI: The novel coronavirus seems to be firing in on all cylinders as it consumed two lives and held in its grip 30 new persons on Saturday. This has taken the district’s covid death toll to 27 and its covid positive count to 680. In all, 18 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the number of recovered patients to 447 for a percentage of 65.73%.
The civil Surgeon’s office informed that a 52-year-old woman from Priya Township, admitted to the covid ward on July 1, died on Friday night while a 70-year-old man from Old City, Badnera, who tested positive at Best Hospital on June 28, breathed his last on Saturday afternoon. This is the third death from Badnera. Ashok Nagar is fast emerging as a new hotspot as 11 tested positive on Saturday, taking its count to 31 since the first case on June 27.
Badnera, the leading hotspot, reported three cases on Saturday to take its count to 88 while a case each from Daryapur and Nandgaon Khandeshwar tehsil took the rural count to 79. Yavatmal district also took its count to two as a 66-year-old man from Dhanora village tested positive in Amravati. Gopalnagar (7), Kanwarnagar (8), Ganesh Vihar (3), Nawathe Hagar (4),
Vidarbha Premier Society (2) and Sarafa (4) also added to their tally. The virus entered new localities — Siddharth Hagar, Postal Colony, Giving Nagar and Yashoda Nagar Lane No. 2. These areas reported one case each.
CHANDRAPUR: Eight new patients were added to the tally of Chandrapur on Saturday apart from 8 on Friday, taking the Covid-19 tally to 118. So far, 57 patients have recovered, while active patients under treatment are 61. Officials claimed that three positive results came in the wee hours of Saturday. They included a Nasik returnee from Urjanagar, a foreign return youth from Babupeth locality in Chandrapur city and a Telangana return youth from Karanji village in Gondpipri teshil.
Later, five more tested positive. They included two Telangana returnee women from the same family in Rayyawari Collieries in Chandrapur city, a woman contact of a Nasik return positive family of Urjanagar, a Thane returnee from Hindustan Lalpeth collieries in the city and an Assam returnee from Gadchandur.
Health officials claimed that these five persons were either in institutional quarantine or home quarantine. The condition of all the positive patients is stable, they added.
YAVATMAL: For the fourth consecutive day, there’s been no respite for Yavatmal as nine new patients tested positive on Saturday — a man from the city and four men and four women from Ner tehsil. Eight patients, who were in the isolation ward, recovered and were discharged on Saturday, taking the total number of active positive patients to 63. In the last 24 hours, GMC received 40 reports of which 30 were negative. So far, the district has recorded 314 positive cases with 239 discharged.
WARDHA: Three employees of MSEDCL who had gone to Konkan for repair work due to the Nisarga cyclone, tested positive on Saturday.
According to information, Nisarga cyclone caused extensive damage in the Konkan. The MSEDCL also suffered heavy losses. In all, 20 workers from Wardha district had gone to Pen to restore power supply. Out of these 20, six employees are from Hinganghat division, five from Arvi division and nine from Wardha division. These employees returned on July 1.
Of them, 7 from Wardha division were admitted to the civil hospital on July 2 and their swab samples were sent for testing. The reports of three, a 52-year-old, a 37-year-old and a 43-year-old (all males) were positive. These employees are from Anji, Pipri (Meghe) and Samata Nagar in Wardha. They have been admitted to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital in Sawangi for treatment. The other employees are in home-quarantined. The district health officer informed that swab samples of all have been sent for test.
BULDHANA: Seven new cases were reported in Buldhana while 10 patients were discharged on July 4. Buldhana received 133 reports from the pending samples on July 4 out of which 126 were negative. The seven positive include a 65-year-old man. Buldhana’s total cases reached 278, including 172 recovered and 13 deaths. In all, 93 patients are undergoing treatment.
GONDIA: Gondia district reported 8 new cases on July 4. Seven of them are natives of Gondia and 1 is from Tirora tehsil. Kumbhare Nagar and Dongargaon of Gondia are on their way to become hotspots of corona cases with 13 and 9 cases respectively. Gondia has 60 active cases at present.
BHANDARA: With six new cases, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Bhandara reached 93 on July 4. Bhandara reported new cases after a gap of 3 days. The district has 13 active positive cases now.
WASHIM: A woman from Sangaon in Mangrulpir tehsil of Washim district tested positive in Pune while a 22-year-old girl from Washim city tested positive in Washim itself. The total number of cases in Washim is now 118. Two patients from Washim recovered, taking the number of recovered patients to 83. With three deaths, Washim now has 32 active cases.
GADCHIROLI: The only district in Vidarbha that recorded no new case was Gadchiroli on July 4. In fact, a youth from Chamorshi Tehsil in Gadchiroli recovered and was discharged from hospital. Now, Gadchiroli has 73 cases and 59 of them have recovered.
