Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported deaths of 65
Covid-19 patients, including 37 people in Chennai. The
death toll in Chennai crossed the 1,000-mark to reach 1,033. The state’s death toll is now at 1,450.
As many as 4,280 people tested positive for the viral infection on Saturday. The total number of cases reached 1,07,001, including 44,956 active cases.
Chennai, which has only a day left for the intense lockdown to end, accounted for 1,842 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 66,538.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 600 cases. They include 215 cases in Chengalpet, 134 in Kancheepuram and 251 in Tiruvallur.
Apart from Chennai’s three neighbouring districts, four other districts recorded positive cases in three digits on Saturday -- Madurai (350 cases), Ramanathapuram (111), Ranipet (102) and Tiruvannamalai (171).
Among those tested positive, three were passengers who returned from abroad in flights. Seven passengers returned from Iran in a ship.
Four passengers returned from other states in domestic flights while 84 passengers returned from other states by road and train.
A total of 2,214 patients were discharged on Saturday. It takes the total number of discharged patients to 60,592.
