Infection-mortality rate of Pimpri-Chinchwad city is just 1.42 – the lowest as compared to other cities

Pimpri: The infection-mortality rate of Pimpri-Chinchwad city is just 1.42 – the lowest as compared to other cities – in the state. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appreciated the efforts of doctors of Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital and officials Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to keep the infection as well as mortality rate low in the city.

The total number of COVID-19 positive patients in the city was 3,708 till Friday afternoon. The city has witnessed maximum infection and mortality rate in June month. There were only eight deaths reported till May end but in June 39 patients died due to Covid-19. Now the total number of deaths in the PCMC area stands at 53. Doctors at YCM hospital said, “The death rate of patients is very low. We are trying to keep it low as possible.”

Dr Rajendra Wable, Dean of YCM hospital said, “The arrangements made at YCM hospital are simple and suitable for patients. There is enough social distance maintained between patients who are tested positive for COVID-19 and those who come for testing. There is no cross-infection between the two. So far, almost 90 per cent of the positive-patients have recovered and went home healthy.”

Pimpri-Chinchwad city was earlier classified as red zone by the state government. Later, the city was declared as green zone and several businesses were permitted to restart their operations. Many Information Technology (IT) companies and hubs and other industrial units are located in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. Despite giving relaxations in lockdown, PCMC has managed to keep the number of cases and deaths due to Covid-19 low.
