JAMSHEDPUR: Taking cognisance of the drug peddlers operating in Kharkai river bank area of Adityapur, state health minister and Jamshedpur (West) MLA Banna Gupta has directed the local SP, Mohd Arsi, to take immediate action against them.
The area is strategically located, bordering the two districts of East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan (separated by Kharkai river) and the peddlers often take advantage of this to flee the spot by crossing the river, whenever there are police raids.
Prior to the lockdown, the cops had conducted several raids in the river bank area and a few peddlers were caught. But in Unlock 1.0, the illegal drug business is going on in full swing in the area, alleged the health minister.
Speaking to TOI, Banna said that there is rampant selling of brown sugar in the region and the SP has assured him that action will be taken against such miscreants.
Time and again state ministers, including transport minister and Seraikela MLA Champai Soren, and the opposition have raised their concerns over the growing number of drug dealers in Adityapur. Recently, AAP functionary and former Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar had urged the administration to wipe out such criminals from there as soon as possible.
