'CISCE assessment method logical, student-friendly'

KOLKATA: Seema Sapru, principal of The Heritage School, felt the assessment method adopted by the Council for the indian school certificate examinations (CISCE) was logical. "There is a mathematical calculation and the council has derived the formula which is student-friendly. I do not believe candidates will require to take the improvement examinations later because this marks imputation formula is a win-win for students," said Sapru. In statistics, imputation is the process of replacing missing data with substituted values.
The principal of Rammohan Mission School, Sujoy Biswas, said: "The latest performance of the student has been taken into consideration and that will benefit students."
Once students see their scores under this marking pattern, they will be able to appreciate the calculations because the formula will bring out the qualitative analysis of each bracket easily, said John Bagul, principal of South City International School.
Some principals felt the system of prediction will not bring in the same results for everyone. "While those who are very good in academics will benefit, the average students or the ones with lower merit will not. However, this system of scaling will help students score the pass marks easily," explained T H Ireland, principal of St James School.
