A shark attack victim is fighting for life after being bitten in waters near Fraser Island, off the Queensland coast.

Paramedics and a an RACQ LifeFlight rescue helicopter crew are on scene after the reported shark bite occurred off Indian Head just after 2pm on Saturday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said one patient in a critical condition was being treated.
