Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today issue a video message on the occasion of Ashada Purnima / Guru Purnima with special emphasis on the teachings of Lord Buddha and walking on the Ashtanga shown by him. While President Ramnath Kovind will inaugurate Dharm Chakra Day on Saturday from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) will celebrate Ashadha Purnima on July 4, 2020, as Dharma Chakra Day. This day is celebrated in the present-day deer garden located in Rishipatan in Sarnath, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on this day keeping in mind the 'first sermon' given by Mahatma Buddha to his first five ascetic disciples.
This day is also celebrated by Buddhists all over the world as the Day of Dharma Chakra Pravartan or 'Rotation of the Wheel of Dharma'. This day is also celebrated as 'Guru Poornima' by both Buddhists and Hindus to express their respect to their Guru.
